2026

February is one of the richest months of the year for celebration, reflection, and coming together as a community. From honoring Black History Month and the legacies that have shaped our country, to welcoming the Lunar New Year and the bold energy of the Year of the Fire Horse, the month is full of opportunities to learn and connect. We’re also pausing to celebrate the people closest to us through Valentine’s and Galentine’s Day, and to enjoy the color and joy of Carnival and Mardi Gras around the world. Layered on top of it all, the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina invite us to cheer on athletes from every corner of the globe as they chase lifelong dreams on ice and snow. P.S. Groundhog Day was a bust and we have 6 more weeks of winter; Bad Bunny concert was a great success.

Celebrating Heritage

Black History Month
< News & Updates

Month of February

Every February, we observe Black History Month to honor the profound contributions, resilience, and triumphs of Black Americans who have shaped the foundation of our country. Originally established in 1926 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, this month has evolved into a vital period of reflection and education, ensuring that the stories of Black innovators, leaders, and artists remain central to the American narrative.

In New York City, there are countless ways to engage this month. You can visit the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem for its centennial exhibitions, take a guided tour of the Seneca Village site in Central Park to learn about Manhattan’s early Black property owners, or explore the "100 Years of Black Art" showcase at ACA Galleries in Chelsea. Whether you’re supporting a local Black-owned business in your neighborhood or attending a jazz performance at the Apollo Theater, we encourage everyone to take time this month to listen, learn, and celebrate the heritage that continues to move our city and our nation forward.

Lunar New Year: Year of Horse
< News & Updates

February 17, 2026

Lunar New Year began in China as a seasonal festival marking winter’s end and the start of spring, tied to the lunisolar calendar. It grew from rituals to honor ancestors and household gods and to ward off misfortune, captured in legends of the beast “Nian,” frightened away by red, light, and loud noise. Today, Lunar New Year is both a family homecoming and a story of migration, carried from China across East and Southeast Asia and into cities like New York. In Vietnam it is known as Tết (Tết Nguyên Đán), in South Korea as Seollal, and many in the West call it Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year. Wherever it’s celebrated, the New Year centers on reunion, renewal, and luck.

This year ushers in the Year of the Fire Horse, a sign associated with energy, independence, and bold forward motion. Fire intensifies the Horse’s drive, making this a symbolic time for courageous decisions, ambitious projects, and channeling passion into meaningful change at both personal and community levels.

In New York City, that spirit shows up in vibrant celebrations across the boroughs. Manhattan’s Chinatown parade and firecracker ceremony, Flushing’s performances and food‑filled streets, and lion dances at Industry City and Hudson Yards all offer ways to step into the new year with noise, color, and community. From temple fairs and family banquets to outdoor markets, cultural workshops, and late‑night karaoke, the city’s neighborhoods turn the holiday into a week‑spanning invitation to eat, wander, and celebrate side by side with longtime locals and first‑time visitors alike.

Carnival / Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras
< News & Updates

February 16th & 17th, 2026

Across the world, February marks one of the most vibrant times of the year. Cities and small towns come alive with electric rhythms, extravagant costumes, and high-energy celebrations. Revelers take over the streets to join in the festivities of Carnival. This tradition can be traced back to ancient times, though in modern eras, the celebrations have become more associated with Christianity. Carnival is held on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, as a way to indulge before entering the solemn Lenten period that is highly revered in Catholic and Christian culture.

Celebrations occur throughout Latin American countries like Brazil, Bolivia, and Colombia; across the Caribbean in Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe, and Dominica; and in European countries like Belgium, Germany, and Italy. Notably, Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) in New Orleans is a widely recognized Carnival celebration and the most iconic in the United States.

While each carnival has its own unique traditions, some elements remain universal: wearing masks and vibrant costumes, dancing in parades through the streets, and experiencing a time when rules feel suspended and joy reigns supreme.

Whether you are enjoying the Samba rhythms in Brazil, the steelpan music in Trinidad and Tobago, or wearing a Bauta mask in Venice, Carnival represents a remarkable moment of global unity through celebration. It reminds us that despite our different cultures and customs, the human desire to gather, celebrate, and embrace life before reflection transcends all boundaries. This annual tradition continues to bring communities together, creating memories and connections that last far beyond the final parade.

Ramadan
< News & Updates

February 18, 2026

Ramadan is expected to begin in the U.S. on the evening of Wednesday, February 18, 2026, with the first day of fasting on Thursday, February 19, depending on local moon sightings. It marks the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, increase their prayers, and focus on charity and spiritual reflection, commemorating the period when the Quran’s revelation to the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have begun more than 1,400 years ago, with fasting in this month formally prescribed in 7th‑century Medina and quickly becoming one of the Five Pillars of Islam that has bound Muslim communities across cultures and centuries. This Ramadan is especially notable for New Yorkers, as we mark the holy month with the city’s first Muslim mayor in office, adding a new layer of representation to how the month is observed in civic life.

In New York City, you can honor the start of Ramadan by visiting a local mosque for an open house or evening iftar (many communities in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx host public dinners), exploring cultural events like Ramadan bazaars and pop-ups, or supporting Muslim-owned restaurants offering iftar specials after sunset. You might also take part by donating to local food pantries, volunteering with NYC-based relief organizations that run Ramadan food drives, or simply learning more through museum programs and community center talks that highlight Islamic history and culture during the month.

Valentines & Galentines
< News & Updates

February 14, 2026

Whether you are celebrating a partner, your closest friends, or yourself, mid-February offers a double dose of connection with Valentine’s Day (February 14th) and Galentine’s Day (February 13th). While Valentine’s Day has its roots in ancient Roman tradition and has long been a tribute to romantic love, Galentine’s Day, popularized in more recent years, has become a beloved tradition dedicated to honoring the "soulmates" we find in our friendships.

In a city like New York, these holidays serve as a much-needed reminder to slow down and express gratitude for the people who love and support us. You can celebrate by participating in any of the several fun activities taking place in the city, including visiting the "Love in Times Square" event where lucky couples tied the knot in front of dozens of spectators!

Winter Olympics
< News & Updates

February 6, 2026

February 6th marked the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics, commonly known as Milano Cortina 2026, hosted in Italy. More than 3,500 athletes from 93 nations will compete in a variety of snow and ice-based events. From figure skating to alpine skiing, winter sports showcase both adrenaline and extraordinary skill. Over the next few weeks, 116 medals will be awarded across 16 disciplines.

The first winter games were held in France in 1924, featuring only five sports: bobsleigh, curling, ice hockey, Nordic skiing, and skating. Originally, the Winter and Summer Olympics took place in the same year, but in 1992, the IOC decided to alternate them on separate four-year schedules to build greater community engagement and sponsorship support.

One of the most inspiring aspects of these games is the participation of countries without natural ice or snow conditions. Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Trinidad, four Caribbean nations, will compete in bobsled, alpine skiing, skeleton, and cross-country skiing. Additionally, Benin and Guinea-Bissau will make their Winter Olympics debut, both competing in alpine skiing for the first time in history.

The Milano Cortina 2026 exemplifies the universal appeal of athletic competition. As the world turns its attention to Italy over the coming weeks, the Winter Olympics will deliver unforgettable moments of triumph, heartbreak, and human achievement. Whether you're captivated by the grace of figure skating or the speed of downhill racing, these games remind us why the Olympic spirit continues to unite people across the globe every four years.

Aries

03.12 - 04.19

February will be a ride. It’s not that all of it will be wild or unexpected. But there will be some ups and downs. The trick will be to stay in your seat and keep at it. During the Full Moon in Leo, your patience for many things will wear thin. It might be now that you move forward with your thinking about several key relationships in your life. When Saturn enters Aries you will feel a sense of justice. Everything is a stage. Both a performance and a set of processes to go through.

Taurus

04.20 - 05.20

February won’t be a surprise to you and it will bring you gifts. If there was something you have been waiting for then this is the time where it could happen. Mercury in Pisces is lucky energy for you and you will talk yourself into good things. The New Moon in Aquarius is a chance for change. Make sure it is the change you want and that you have dreamed about. With Saturn in Aries, you may want to tell some people how they have wronged you. Go ahead and say everything.

Gemini

05.21 - 06.20

February is not a seer, but you might feel like one this month. The Full Moon in Leo will give you extra confidence to see through the BS of others. Saturn in Aries will help you have a keen sense of what is correct to do next and you will want to tell everyone about it. You might get a bit off kilter with Mercury in Pisces and then the retrograde later in the month. Just keep speaking your mind and the rest will follow.

Cancer

06.21 - 07.22

There’s a lot you will feel this February and it’s good to feel ok with that. These feelings are important as you work through some of the watery energy this month. Particularly Venus in Pisces will make you feel a bit nostalgic for a love long past, possibly one that was never fully realized. Let yourself feel everything with a sense of optimism. Do a ritual during the New Moon in Aquarius for the wildness you seek in your love life. The energy will be extra charged for you.

Leo

07.23 08.22

In February, you will feel alive again. There will be a renewed sense of purpose this month, with the Full Moon in your sign making you feel an extra recharge. The New Moon will also give you an added boost of confidence and sense that you can do anything. There’s much to learn from the way you feel now and how that can carry you through the rest of the year and beyond. Saturn in Aries will add to this feeling even more profoundly. Destiny is on its way to you this month.

Virgo

08.23 - 09.22

In February, you will feel a heightened sense of purpose. Perhaps there are goals and projects that you have kept a bit on the back burner these past few months. Now is a good time to unearth them and let them glow in the light of this month’s energies. In particular, Mercury in Pisces is the supportive emotional landscape to let your ideas grow. The New Moon in Aquarius will be the perfect time to plant more intentions for your ideas, too. Rely on the help of your friends.

Libra

09.23 - 10.22

In February, your infectious love and respect for life will shine through. You will dance a little during the Full Moon in Leo’s glows and make wishes for what you most want. When Saturn enters Aries you will look around at your life and realize what parts of it you want to make better. Be as discerning as you want to be, as the more you can see exactly what to cut out the more riches will be in front of you. Mercury Retrograde will feel like a party to you.

Scorpio

10.23 - 11.21

This February you will feel more romantic than ever. Perhaps there is someone you are already madly in love with. The vibes of Venus in Pisces will make you feel even more so. Mercury in Pisces will give you the language tools to speak your feelings as forcefully as is necessary to you in the moment. Pray for the universe during the New Moon in Aquarius. The extensive knowledge you have of what is and what isn’t will help you love everything on the road in front of you.

Sagittarius

11.22 - 12.21

February will make you think about forgiveness. It could be that the Full Moon in Leo is making you feel extra generous. Or it may be that when Saturn enters Aries you will see everything for how it really is and your gentle place within it. You will be filled with love all month. Use some of that energy as you set intentions during the New Moon in Aquarius. Make sure it’s wild love you pray for and pray to. It’s always wild love for you.

Capricorn

12.22 - 01.19

February will have a layer of glitter for you. Even as you try to keep your head down and work through your many to-do lists, glamour and fun will be calling your name. A trip or two may happen this month to see old friends, which will make you feel energized. Venus in Pisces will have you calling up old flames, but be careful to stop once Mercury goes into retrograde. Saturn in Aries and the New Moon will feel like cosmic resets. Embrace this new version of yourself.

Aquarius

01.20 - 02.18

If last month was a poem, February will be a love song. During the Full Moon in Leo, you will feel completely in love with yourself. As well you should as you are the most awesome. The New Moon in Aquarius will give you a recharge for this feeling as well. Saturn in Aries will affect you profoundly, but you may keep this to yourself. Do some journaling or letter writing to work out your frustrations during the beginning of Mercury retrograde, which will be many.

Pisces

02.19 - 03.20

In February, a lifelong dream will begin to surface. It’s important not to doubt who you are and who you can be. The Full Moon in Leo will make you feel as royal as you let it. The trick is to let it. Saturn in Aries will feel a bit severe. What needs to be reset within yourself will manifest within your surrounding. Pisces season will feel like a friend. Use that friendly energy to ask for what you most want. You will get it.
