Welcome to the first newsletter of 2026! January is a month that balances reflection, connection, and a little bit of magical fun. From honoring powerful moments in our shared history to exploring the very best of NYC’s food, theater, and art/puzzling scenes (with a MoMA scavenger hunt to boot), plus a fresh round of Nomad office events and your new year horoscopes, this issue is all about starting the year with intention, curiosity, and joy!
This January includes two profoundly important days of reflection and action. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and International Holocaust Remembrance Day both invite us to honor lives lost, recognize the ongoing impacts of injustice, and recommit—individually and collectively—to building a more just, equitable, and humane world in our communities and workplaces.

As we approach the third Monday of January, we take a moment to honor the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Established as a federal holiday in 1983 and first observed in 1986, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the Civil Rights Movement's fight for racial justice and equality.
Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolent resistance transformed the American landscape, and this holiday commemorates his dream of a "Beloved Community" where every individual is judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. Today, MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a "National Day of Service," encouraging all of us to reflect on his message by rolling up our sleeves and giving back to our local communities. It’s a day to bridge divides, address social injustices, and reaffirm our commitment to making equity a reality in our daily lives and workplaces.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed on January 27, is a day designated by the United Nations to honor the six million Jews and millions of other victims persecuted and murdered by the Nazi regime during the Holocaust, on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945. It is important because it commemorates victims and survivors while calling on governments and communities to confront antisemitism, Holocaust denial, and all forms of hatred, reminding people that joining together in community strengthens both remembrance and the shared resolve to resist such violence and indifference across the world.
In New York City, people can mark the day through programs and ceremonies at institutions such as the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park City (you can also simply visit the museum), the 92nd Street Y, and various synagogues and community centers across the city, which typically host memorial services, survivor testimony events, lectures, film screenings, and educational programs to commemorate this Remembrance Day.

Every year on January 29th, we celebrate National Puzzle Day! Whether it's traditional jigsaw puzzles, sudoku brain teasers, or word searches, puzzles are a great way to keep our minds sharp. Research shows that doing puzzles daily can significantly improve memory, cognitive function, and problem-solving skills.
There's also a great social benefit to doing puzzles. Working on them together improves our social interactions and is a wonderful way to spend time with friends while stimulating the brain!
In NYC, there are some opportunities to join puzzle groups. Puzzle People of NYC is a group that frequently hosts puzzle events open to everyone. The Brooklyn Public Library also hosts an adult-only puzzle club at the Walt Whitman Library. Not interested in joining a group? No worries! You can also check out puzzles and board games from the library to take home and enjoy with friends or solo.
The puzzle opportunities are endless! In fact, we've created a B2B marketing word search to put your puzzle skills to the test. Print it out and have some fun!

The Watson Adventures MoMA scavenger hunt is a fast-paced, clue-driven game inside the Museum of Modern Art where teams follow witty, puzzle-like questions to track down details in famous artworks, earning points as they go. It is designed for adults and older teens, emphasizes clever observation over art knowledge, and runs on set dates with a game host who explains the rules, starts the clock, and announces the winning team at the end.
To join, you choose the January 31st MoMA hunt date on the Watson Adventures ticketing page, purchase tickets in advance, and then meet your team at the specified check-in spot near MoMA before the start time to receive your hunt materials and instructions. Happy Hunting!
Shake, stir, and sip along as we learn to make a couple of delicious cocktails together. No experience required!
This month we’re doing books turned movies! You all voted on reading Where the Crawdads Sing and watching the 2012 classic starring Daisy Edgar-Jones (as seen in Normal People, Twisters, Fresh, and more!)
We gathered for a cozy and luxurious holiday dinner to toast the season and the successful year we’ve had! Between the cheers-ing, festive fits, and perfectly cooked steaks, we had a great time celebrating each other, together. (We did let them know the steaks needed a liiiiittle more salt next time.)

Last but definitely not least, we finished December festivities with our very first Nomad End of Year Wrapped, followed by our beloved (read: competitive) White Elephant gift exchange. We got to spend time as a team reflecting on milestones, celebrating big wins, and closing out a year full of learning, growth, and change. Plant LEGO sets made a highly anticipated comeback as the hot commodities as we closed out the evening with a friendly fight for the gift of our dreams.

Keeping with Nomad tradition, we celebrated the holiday season with a tasty, carb-filled cookie swap. Thanks to everyone who took the opportunity to flex your baking skills and to those that volunteered your taste buds!
